Today Lees-McRae College announced all summer events on campus are cancelled, and that sadly includes Lees-McRae Summer Theatre. This was a difficult decision for the College to make, and while it is heartbreaking for our company and our audiences, it was the right decision.
Since 1985, LMST has been a cornerstone of the Banner Elk community, welcoming thousands of audience members to Hayes Auditorium and bringing professional theatre to the High Country. Our casts and crews come from all over the country, and we’ll miss introducing them to the beauty of the mountains and the friendly community of Banner Elk. Beyond the college campus, many members of LMST patronize local businesses and attend events in the High Country, as well as make new acquaintances and friends with the locals who are lucky to call Banner Elk their home.
All three previously announced productions (The Drowsy Chaperone, America’s Artist: The Norman Rockwell Story, and Matilda) will be moved to next year and become our 2021 season. We’ll announce new performance dates at a later time.
If you purchased tickets for the 2020 season, refund information will be shared on our website (lmc.edu/summertheatre) soon. You may choose to receive a refund for your tickets, or if you find it within your heart to help LMST during this difficult time, you may convert your ticket purchase into a tax-deductible donation. Whatever decision you make, we’re thankful for your support of LMST.
We’re already looking forward to seeing you all in Hayes Auditorium in 2021. Until then, we’re wishing you health and safety.
